Job Description

Responsible for managing sales tax returns and related issues.


  • Manages the preparation of all U.S. and Canadian sales and use tax returns.
  • Manages the review and reconciliation of the company's sales tax accounts in the general ledger.
  • Ensures that proper documentation for non-taxable customers and products is maintained.
  • Responsible for the update of the tax system rules.
  • Supervises department personnel by interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating job performance, disciplining, scheduling work and other related
  • Performs a variety of other related tax and accounting tasks, as required.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an excellent internal control environment
  • Research and document taxability decisions on current and future service offerings to customers and approve exemption certificates
  • Review company's various general ledger systems to evaluate and/or modify the sales tax calculations to insure accuracy
  • Continue to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the compliance function through technology and process improvements
  • Assist in future migrations of legacy accounting systems to insure accurate sales tax reporting
  • Assist with legal entity rationalization projects to insure sales tax reporting is changed where nexus is newly created for an impacted business unit
  • Monitor sales tax legislative changes which impact the taxability of company services
  • Respond to government correspondence relating to indirect taxes and business licenses, to avoid imposition of levy's and government garnishments and handles all indirect tax audits


  • A minimum of five years of responsible accounting experience, with three of those years in a leadership role.
  • A broad knowledge of accounting and financial control principles and their business applications.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail in performing accounting tasks.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Advanced computer skills in spreadsheet, word processing database, and other applicable software programs.
  • Ability to work well with others in performing a variety of accounting tasks.
  • Accounting process/procedures/reports experience
  • State tax regulations experience
  • Previous supervisory experience, including hiring, evaluating, managing and disciplining employees
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
